Discover Eyes of the Unseen, a contemporary Medusa art print reimagining the myth by focusing on survival and the power of being seen.

Her gaze is striking, but this piece immediately contradicts the traditional Medusa mythology. In my adaptation, Medusa does not harden your spirit and body; she explores it and allows you to grieve without shame. When we create stories and assumptions about other people, no matter how small, we make it their responsibility to prove us wrong.

Red dominates this piece because the heart of the Artist behind it is angry. It’s the anger of sanctity unfairly tainted. The snake to her left represents the bottled-up resentment that inevitably leaks into the survivors’ life.

The bold movement within the work mirrors my own inner conflict. I painted with heavy emotions, intentionally wrestling with them as I worked. Her expression reveals my discomfort with confronting these feelings. This piece belongs to a rather troubling chapter of my healing journey. It represents the moment I decided I didn’t need anyone else to validate my heart. I chose to see myself first, rather than waiting to be seen, rather than hold onto the pain just to prove I endured it. It is a moment of choosing authenticity and forgiveness within a story that previously brought me shame, and I hope that that choice resonates with other survivors.

I want you to know: you are not alone. You can move forward in power, and you will. Sharing stories like this feels uncomfortable for a moment, but then comes the relief of community, rushing in to refresh a desiccated mind. This is a piece that honors humans in all their depth and complexity. An uplifting, passionate work for people committed to being their truest selves, refusing to fall when knocked over.
