My Blue Soul I: Through the Veil of the Becoming | Surreal Art Print
About the Artwork
Surreal art print
Discover the 1st piece of the My Blue Soul series, Through the Veil of the Becoming, a surreal art print exploring the formation of identity and the tension between who we were and who we are infinitely becoming.
This piece started from a meditation in front of a blank canvas, I had no plan and no references. It made me uneasy at first, but the more I studied it, the clearer I saw myself staring back at me. There's a very clear synchrony between the two halves of the painting. In some areas, they are drastically different, in others they mirror each other and in some they blend into one scene.
I wanted the colors to feel like everything Divine: planets, stars, space, the sky, clouds, flowers. These things already life together in our world, and I brought them back together here. There’s a sacred unity in their coexistence and teamwork.
This piece took a long time to complete, seven months in total. The actual painting time was only about 27 hours. The time in between was full of avoidance, exhaustion, and a suppressed need to create. Some days, I would hang the canvas on my wall and just stare at it, longing for my imagination to be released. Other days, I was so drained that I couldn’t even bring myself to think about it. Identical trees frame both edges, like a single tree split in two and placed apart. Everything feels like it’s blending and dripping into the layer beneath it, into some deeper reality. It’s a visual expression of my being: an amalgamation of more than just what we see and remember. As above, so below.
This was painted during one of the lowest points in my life. I thought my sense of identity was fixed and in my control, so ineluctably I was trying to get it back. I was being discouraged from the creative path I’d always felt called to follow. I was deep in addiction and slowly fading. But in the middle of that fog, I felt an overwhelming pull to create.
There’s a figure in the painting, and she's choosing to move forward with strength. Near her, but walking in the opposite direction, is a headless deer. A symbol of innocence that was taken too soon. The contrasting bloodied but able-bodied snail embodies the will to move forward, and the slow movement through grief of what’s been lost.
I hope that when people stand in front of this painting, they feel the divide not as something to fear, but as a beautiful invitation to know yourself deeper. You can choose to walk forward with the wonder of your inner child still alive inside you. You can build something new from a place of healing and truth. This series isn’t about loss at all, it’s about choosing to live with your wounds as they heal and your potential as it grows, together, in one body.
